This is one of my favorite times of the year. College basketball reaches its exciting apex with March Madness, and shortly thereafter the Masters golf tournament is played. And to say that the 2016 presidential election contests for both parties have been highly entertaining is an understatement. We are certainly heading into spring with a full head of steam!
While the signs of spring are very welcoming to this Seton Hall University college basketball fan, the hoopla does underscore the almost forgotten fact that there are 435 House members and 34 Senators up for re-election in 2016! For NACD members, this is a golden opportunity to take advantage of the association’s Site Visit Program by inviting your U.S. House and/or Senate members to visit your facility. In an election year like this one, lawmakers are eager to meet with their constituents and hopefully secure votes. By hosting them at your facility, you’re providing elected officials with a constituent audience while also informing them about the important work you do to support the local economy.
As we basketball fans know, sometimes the top ranked teams lose early on in the chaotic March madness process, while the underdog teams often end up going the distance and defying the overwhelming odds against them. By hosting your congressman at your facility, you can even the odds that your business and our industry go the distance and survive the onslaught of regulations and the uncertain economic environment.
March is a chaotic time of the year, but it is also a time full of promise and new growth for the year ahead. Just as I’m hopeful that Seton Hall takes home the national title, I’m also both hopeful and confident that we as an industry will continue proving our resilience and value to the American economy.
