NACD’s 2023 Spring Regulatory and Responsible Distribution Workshops are taking place March 14-16, 2023 – bringing industry experts together for a few days of insight, education, and networking. And for the second successive year, NACD will host both workshops at our headquarters in Arlington, Virginia.
During the workshops, you will hear from NACD staff as well as Responsible Distribution Advisers, emergency response coordinators, agency representatives, and others about some of the most pressing issues facing chemical distribution, with interactive sessions and plenty of opportunities for questions.
This year’s agenda is filled with information relevant to you and your businesses regarding the latest regulations and guidance to help you through your Responsible Distribution 2023 verification.
The Regulatory Workshop kicks-off our dual workshops on March 14 with a deep dive into the latest policy issues affecting the industry. Given the current landscape – and the fact those issues seem to be changing by the day – we’ve no doubt everyone will head back to the office afterwards with plenty to think about.
The workshop begins with a focus on fraud as Lisa Parnpichate from the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) talks us through the telltale signs of a scam. With fraudulent activity becoming increasingly prevalent of late, this session will outline the preventative measures that can be taken so that fraud won’t take your company by surprise.
And with so many questions remaining unanswered following the November 15, 2021, resurrection of the Superfund tax, we are pleased to have Douglas Charnas of McGlinchey Stafford and Richard E. Engler at Bergeson and Campbell joining us to help make sense of the changes. Last month, the second Superfund tax, this one on crude oil and petroleum products, took effect. This timely workshop session will consider how both taxes will interact and affect your operations.
Among the many other highlights, Karin Baron of Bergeson & Campbell, PC will sit down with Maureen Ruskin, formerly of the U.S. Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), to discuss Ms. Ruskin's incredible and unique insights and experiences with the OSHA Hazard Communications Standard, the UN Sub-Committee of Experts on the Globally Harmonized System for Classification and Labelling of Chemicals, and the U.S.-Canada Regulatory Cooperation Council.
As if that isn’t enough, starting March 15, attention will then turn to Responsible Distribution. This is the first workshop we’ve held since the introduction of the new Responsible Distribution 2023 program; making it the perfect opportunity to learn about the changes and pose questions about the new requirements.
We’ve crammed eight information-packed sessions into the day-and-a-half program, covering everything from verification preparation, warehousing, employee safety and training, and security, to the new sustainability code.
And for those new to Responsible Distribution, we’ll also be running our popular Candidacy Class Training Session on the opening morning to introduce our mandatory third-party-verified environmental, health, safety, security, and sustainability program to those new to NACD or the Code Coordinator role.
Later, the NACD Government Affairs team will offer a run-down of the big issues on Capitol Hill and an update on the legislative and regulatory issues likely to impact Responsible Distribution in the year ahead.
The Government Affairs team will be joined by a lineup of some fantastic speakers, including Responsible Distribution Advisors, committee members, and industry experts.
Among the speakers will be NACD’s Board Treasurer and Brenntag North America’s Matt Fridley, who will talk us through Security Vulnerability Assessments and the many resources available to help companies boost their security.
Another session will see Responsible Distribution Adviser Pete Downing, President of Environment & Safety Solutions, Inc., discussing employee safety at customer facilities and how best to protect your team when working remotely.
We’re also delighted to have the local Arlington County Fire Department and Emergency Response Team Coordinator join us to highlight the importance of working closely with first responders and Local Emergency Planning Commissions.
