New Membership Category Reflects Modern Distribution

Just as our industry is continuously changing, so are we. As the next step in our evolution since changing our name last fall, ACD is redefining its membership categories.

Traditionally, ACD’s membership has consisted of Distributor Members and several different Affiliate categories. After much consideration, we've decided to combine our Chemical Handler Affiliates and Distributor Members into one category.

Chemical Producer Affiliates and Service Provider Affiliates – non-chemical handling companies that provide a service or product for the industry – will remain unchanged.

Essentially, if you're a company that's part of ACD and going through Responsible Distribution – our trusted environmental, health, safety, security, and sustainability standards program – you'll now be considered a member of ACD. That means distributors, warehouses, and transportation companies that go through Responsible Distribution will now all fall into the same membership category.

The distributors of today are not the distributors of yesterday. They’re doing so much more than focusing solely on distribution itself. The modern distributor has become a specialist in warehousing, blending, transportation, and more.

As an organization fresh from our own rebranding, we think it is critical we acknowledge this and change alongside you. By expanding and attracting new businesses throughout the supply chain, we want to adapt our membership categories accordingly. This ensures that more companies joining the Alliance will benefit from the significant value and resources we provide.

Our Board has been in discussions since the beginning of the year, and we’ve now officially sent out notice that we're updating our bylaws to better reflect the diversifying membership of today.

Membership in the Alliance is open to companies that purchase for resale and/or handle chemical and essential ingredients. This includes, but is not limited to, companies that:

• Take title to and resell chemicals and/or ingredients,

• Blend, recycle, sample, transport, or warehouse/store these products on behalf of others, and

• Actively facilitate sales of these products as agents, traders, or related services for producers or distribution firms in this industry.

These changes took effect from May 14, 2024.
