I recently read an article about employee development where the author cited some very interesting statistics about the importance of offering your employees training opportunities. According to the author, training can play a big role in employee recruitment and retention, especially among younger workers who tend to value their own personal and professional growth over other jobs perks.
In fact, 76% of workers want opportunities to improve their performance. On top of that, a full quarter of employees would find greater job satisfaction if they were given ways to do their jobs better. Not only would providing professional development raise worker morale, but their greater satisfaction level would no doubt produce greater efficiency and potentially bigger bottom lines. It’s key to not only performance but in actually keeping your employees, as statistics show a large portion of employees leave their jobs because they receive too few training opportunities. The article I mentioned above states that nearly 40%, or almost half, of workers who leave in the first year do so because of a lack of training! Clearly, we could all be doing more to help foster those that make our businesses possible day in and day out.
There are many ways training can be provided, but in today’s fast-paced world, why not take advantage of high quality training from your desk when you can? It saves you time, money and you can even do it as a team. As an NACD member, this resource is only a click away through our online educational portal, NACD U.
