Explore ESG at the Central and Southern Region Meeting

No matter where your business is on its sustainability journey, a presentation on environmental, social, and governance (ESG) promises to inform and inspire at the upcoming Central and Southern Region Meeting taking place from June 14-16.

The hour-long interactive session, ESG Case Study: What It Is, Why We Care and How To Get Started, is scheduled for the final day of the event in St Louis, Missouri, and will see Maria Dunn, Head of ESG and Sustainability at Phillips 66, focus on this increasingly pertinent topic and offer tangible examples of how to seize the opportunities that lie ahead.

Drawing on Phillip 66’s own experiences over the past decade, Dunn will provide a thorough grounding into ESG and how to apply it to your organization. She will also be available directly after the session to meet attendees and answer any follow-up questions.

“Sustainability is about identifying and managing non-technical or non-financial risks and opportunities to strengthen the long-term viability of an organization,” says Dunn.

“Fundamentally, sustainability is about continuous improvement; issues will evolve, new ones will come up, mature ones will already be integrated into the business. This session will allow attendees to take back actionable, pragmatic suggestions that they can apply to their organization and take their efforts to another level.”

Sustainability has become a top priority for chemical distributors – so much so that NACD has recently introduced a dedicated sustainability code into its Responsible Distribution program.

“Chemical distribution is a mature and highly regulated industry that has good health, safety, and environment controls and operational practices in place,” adds Dunn. “I do, however, believe these practices and controls are not well understood by external parties or stakeholders. Part of sustainability, in addition to the organization improving itself, is about letting external interested parties know all that is being done to keep employees and communities safe when transporting essential products that we use every day and are really needed.”

Other highlights at this year’s event include a two-part workshop with keynote speaker and author Todd Cohen about how to build a successful sales culture; an update from Kelly Murray at the Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) on Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) and voluntary chemical security program, ChemLock; as well as a presentation explaining the issues affecting succession planning with Eric Vendt of law firm Whiteford Taylor and Preston. Datacor’s Caitlin O'Donnell will also be in attendance to provide an overview on the fundamentals of B2B digital marketing and how to build a strong online presence.

NACD’s popular regional meetings provide the perfect opportunity for members to meet face-to-face, network, and discuss the most pressing issues affecting the industry.

The 2023 Central and Southern Region meeting is being held at the St. Louis Union Station Hotel in St Louis, Missouri from June 14-16 – and there’s still time to secure your place!
