Site visits have become an integral part of NACD’s advocacy efforts, providing member companies with the perfect opportunity to forge important, long-lasting relationships with those making the big decisions that affect their businesses.
Having a Member of Congress tour your facility allows them to see first-hand the important work you do, your role in the local community, and your contribution to the supply chain.
A site visit only takes about an hour but proves an invaluable way of building rapport with lawmakers and acquainting them with the challenges and opportunities you face daily as a chemical distributor.
For 2023, our goal is to arrange 30 site visits and, at time of writing, we’re already halfway there with 16 confirmed. Given that Congress is in recess until September and with several other multi-week breaks back in-district the remainder of the year, we’re confident we’ll hit that target.
We’ve certainly come a long way since I joined NACD in late-2014, back when we only completed two or three a year!
A big shoutout to several member companies that have been especially active lately, including Brenntag, Univar Solutions, Hawkins Inc., and Tilley Distribution.
Among the many highlights so far this year, we’ve had Representative Greg Pence (R-IN) heading to Indianapolis to visit Superior; Representative Marc Veasey (D-TX) visiting Vivion Inc., in Fort Worth, Texas; as well as Senator Shelley Moore Capito (R-WV) being invited to one of Brenntag’s sites in West Virginia.
We’re also delighted that two of the visits scheduled in August and September will involve ribbon-cutting ceremonies. During these events, a Senator and Member of Congress will engage with our members for a great photo opportunity as they open or expand their facilities.
Something we've noticed recently is the willingness of some Members of Congress, who have already established excellent relationships with our members, to go out of their way to visit facilities that may not fall within their own district. It’s fantastic to see and underscores the significant impact site visits can have.
Remember, NACD is always on hand to offer help and assist you in making the arrangements if you’d like to host someone at your site. All you need to do is reach out to NACD Government Affairs Coordinator, Tyler Farrar, and let us know that you're interested.
Once you get in touch with NACD, we’ll send out an invitation on your behalf and coordinate with the Congressional staff to see what time works best for all parties. We can provide you with some talking points on the major issues affecting the industry and are more than happy to come and support you on the day of your site visit.
