Today, National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) President Eric R. Byer issued the following statement welcoming the U.S. House of Representatives’ and U.S. Senate’s passage of legislation extending the U.S. Department of Homeland Security’s (DHS) Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) program, which is set to expire on Jan. 19, 2019.
“NACD applauds both the House and Senate for approving legislation that would extend the Department of Homeland Security’s CFATS program for another 15 months. Continuing this important program ensures the chemical industry and regulators work together to keep our nation’s chemical facilities secured against potential terrorist attacks. We thank Sens. Ron Johnson (R-WI) and Gary Peters (D-MI) and Reps. Bennie Thompson (D-MS), Mike Rogers (R-AL), Frank Pallone (D-NJ), Greg Walden (R-OR), Paul Tonko (D-NY), and John Shimkus (R-IL) for making the continuation of the CFATS program a legislative priority.
“We now urge President Trump to sign the CFATS extension into law in order to cement the hard-fought gains legislators, regulators, and industry have made to bolster chemical facility security.”
