Arlington, VA – Today, members of the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) went to Capitol Hill to highlight the importance of the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) program and call on Members of Congress to reauthorize the program ahead of its July 27, 2023 expiration date.
Following the members’ meetings with Congressional offices, NACD President and CEO Eric R. Byer released the following statement:
“The CFATS program plays a critical role in managing the physical and cyber security of our sensitive chemical facilities. In partnership with the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS), this program gives the chemical industry the certainty needed to make long-term security investments and enables the U.S. Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA) to efficiently run the program.
“The preservation and continuation of this vital program is central to the protection of our chemical facilities from ever-evolving security threats. As one of the most successful regulations in existence, the CFATS program has garnered resounding bipartisan support, evidenced by its four successful reauthorizations. I applaud the advocacy of our members who convened on Capitol Hill to urge Congress to swiftly consider and pass legislation that includes the long-term reauthorization of the CFATS program ahead of its expiration date next month.”
