NACD Honors CITCO Water with 2023 Responsible Distribution Excellence Award

Arlington, VA –National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) has announced the winner of the 2023 NACD Responsible Distribution® Excellence Award. This award is presented to companies that demonstrate continuous improvement and a sustained and rigorous commitment to Responsible Distribution, NACD’s mandatory, third-party verified environmental, health, safety, and security program.

This year’s Responsible Distribution Excellence Award goes to CITCO Water.

Established in 1931 and headquartered in Huntington W.Va., CITCO Water is recognized as a premier problem solver in the water and wastewater industry across West Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, Pennsylvania, Virginia, and Ohio. Guided by its commitment to quality and safety, CITCO plays a key role in providing dozens of companies and thousands of people with the chemicals, infrastructure, and expertise they need to access clean drinking water and achieve sustainable wastewater disposal.

“CITCO exemplifies everything we look for in responsible distributors,” said Matt Fridley, Senior Director of Safety and Security at Brenntag North America and Treasurer of NACD’s Board of Directors. “CITCO Water has gone through meticulous steps to prove their attention to detail, dedication to their employees and the communities where they operate, and willingness to continuously improve and raise their standards to ensure the highest safety and quality operations possible. NACD congratulates CITCO on this well-deserved honor.”

Some of CITCO Water’s positive work includes:

  • Establishing a Responsible Distribution Steering Committee consisting of a diverse group of employees from different departments. CITCO convenes monthly to identify possible risks or challenges and collaborates to find effective solutions.
  • Creating the “See Something, Say Something” program to identify near misses in workplace safety. This employee-driven program has taken hold from customer service to operations and has become ingrained in company culture.
  • Utilizing Responsible Distribution as a cornerstone and roadmap for achieving success in their business.
  • Partnering with non-profits across the globe. From providing clean drinking water to the people of Bolivia, to establishing a foundation to aide local communities and ensure access to drinking water, to providing every household in O’Toole W.Va. with clean drinking water for the first time in 17 years, and much more.

“Responsible Distribution challenges us to continuously improve the ways we protect the health, safety, security, and the environment of the communities we serve.” said Jeffrey Morrison, CEO of CITCO Water. “We strive to be positive stewards of safety and receiving the Responsible Distribution Excellence Award reflects our commitment to ensuring safe distribution practices, exceeding regulatory requirements, and advancing the principles of Responsible Distribution.”

NACD would also like to acknowledge two outstanding member companies deserving of honorable mention: Radchem Products, Inc., based in Romeoville, IL, and Norman, Fox & Co., located in City of Industry, CA.

Since 2006, more than a dozen companies that exemplify the principles of Responsible Distribution have received the Responsible Distribution Excellence Award. Third-party verifiers and peers nominate the award recipients to earn this distinctive recognition. Company representatives join NACD leadership at the ChemEdge conference in August each year to receive the award in front of their colleagues and encourage other association members to learn from their best practices.
