NACD Congratulates Mike Johnson on Election as Speaker of the House, Urges Chamber to Return to Normal Order

Arlington, VA –Today, National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) President and CEO Eric R. Byer released the following statement on the election of Representative Mike Johnson (LA-04) as Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives:

“NACD congratulates Mike Johnson on becoming the newly elected Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives. As we approach the end of the first session of the 118th Congress, it’s critical that the chamber returns to normal order to address many of the outstanding issues both at home and abroad. This includes many of the policy priorities that support the chemical distribution industry.

“For months, NACD has advocated for the swift reauthorization of the Chemical Facility Anti-Terrorism Standards (CFATS) program, which expired in July after 16 successful years of safeguarding our nation’s high-risk facilities. Among our other pressing priorities are the enactment of comprehensive freight rail reform to address years of deteriorating service, renewal of the Generalized System of Preferences (GSP) and the Miscellaneous Tariff Bill (MTB), and a comprehensive evaluation of the impact of the reinstated Superfund tax on businesses of all sizes.

“We look forward to working with Speaker Johnson and the U.S House of Representatives on these issues to ensure the continued growth and security of the chemical distribution industry and our nation.”
