ACD Statement on Trump Administration’s Tariffs on Canada, Mexico

Arlington, VA – Today, Alliance for Chemical Distribution (ACD) President and CEO Eric R. Byer released the following statement after the Trump administration moved forward with imposing 25 percent tariffs on nearly all goods imported from Canada and Mexico:

"While we are supportive of actions to enhance American competitiveness, ACD is concerned about the overall consequences increased tariffs – and retaliatory tariffs – will have on our members, the wide range of American manufacturing sectors supported by the chemical distribution industry, and American consumers as a whole. These tariffs will not only drive up costs for American businesses and households, but may also impact the availability of products that are critical to production. When these products become too expensive to import and domestic alternatives remain unavailable, the repercussions will be felt throughout industries nationwide. As we navigate these changes in trade policy, ACD encourages the administration to recognize that the impact of these tariffs will only magnify downstream, placing a strain on our supply chain and our ability to grow our economy.”
