Today, National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) President Eric R. Byer issued the following statement regarding the announcement of U.S. Chemical Safety and Hazard Investigation Board (CSB) Chairperson Vanessa Allen Sutherland’s resignation.
“Since 2015, Vanessa has been a tireless leader of the only federal agency tasked with conducting independent, root cause investigations of chemical incidents in the United States. Under her guidance, what once was a highly dysfunctional agency is now a well-respected and venerated body that provides valuable resources to industry and the public about the prevention and causes of chemical accidents. She brought vision and a passion for safety and safety education to the organization.
“While we are disappointed to see Vanessa leave the CSB, we are thankful for her stewardship of the agency and the positive impact it has had on communities across the United States under her leadership. Despite her departure, NACD stands ready to continue working with CSB to share critical information about safety issues with our membership for their employees, contract workers and surrounding communities.”
