Immediate Past NACD Chairman Appointed to STB Council

Today, the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) proudly announces the appointment of Mathew Brainerd, chairman and owner of Brainerd Chemical Company and immediate past chairman of NACD, to serve on the U.S. Surface Transportation Board’s (STB) Rail-Shipper Transportation Advisory Council (RSTAC). He was nominated by Sen. James Inhofe (R-OK), Rep. Markwayne Mullin (R-OK), and NACD for the position.

He will serve a three-year term advising the Council on how chemical distribution companies like his use rail service providers to ship and receive product as well as challenges and opportunities the STB should consider to improve the nation’s freight rail network.

“When industry and government work together, it increases safety and efficiency for everyone,” Brainerd said. “Serving on RSTAC affords me the opportunity to represent small businesses and their rail transportation interests.”

The RSTAC’s 15 appointed members consist of senior officials representing large and small shippers as well as large and small railroads who provide advice on regulatory, policy and legislative matters to the STB Chairman, the Secretary of Transportation, the Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation, and the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee.
