NACD Applauds Senate Introduction of SBHP Legislation

National Assocation of Chemical Distributors (NACD) President Eric R. Byer issued the following statement on S. 1818, the Small Business Health Plans Act, recently introduced by Sen. Mike Enzi (R-WY). This legislation would provide small businesses with more affordable health care options for their employees and families through small business health plans (SBHPs). The U.S. House of Repesentatives passed similar legislation earlier this year.

“Healthcare costs continue to rise, and now is the time to find innovative solutions that enable employers to provide affordable access to health insurance to their workers. For small businesses like the typical chemical distributor, who on average employs 26 people, having more options for their employee healthcare needs is critical for them to not only ensure a healthy workforce but also keep costs down so they can put more Americans to work in quality-paying jobs.

"NACD welcomes the introduction of S. 1818 by Sen. Enzi that would give small businesses the opportunity to pool together through trade associations to secure better health plans with health providers through increased negotiating power.

“We urge the Senate to quickly pass S. 1818 and work with their colleagues in the House to reconcile differences between their bills and send final legislation to President Trump for his signature.”
