NACD Launches Resource on Chemical Distribution’s Economic Impact

Today, the National Association of Chemical Distributors (NACD) unveiled a new economic impact tool for the chemical distribution sector, powered by research conducted by the firm of John Dunham & Associates (JDA). This online resource illustrates the incredible contributions the chemical distribution industry provides to American workers and the U.S. economy. The tool takes into account a broad range of sectors to which distributors provide valuable products and services and quantifies the impact to the U.S. economy, finding that each year chemical distributors:

•    Produce $30 billion in economic output;
•    Create more than 70,000 direct jobs, and support nearly $6 billion in wages; and
•    Contribute more than $5 billion each year in taxes.

The full analysis including reports for every state and congressional district in the country as well as a full U.S. report is publicly available on the NACD website. Sean Reilly, director of Washington D.C. operations for JDA, said, “Working with NACD, we were able to identify more than 7,500 chemical distribution facilities across the country. Our research shows this vibrant sector is providing good-paying, locally focused jobs around the United States and serves as a major economic engine for the national economy, all while delivering valuable products to virtually every industrial sector.”

NACD President Eric R. Byer stated, “The chemical distribution industry has an excellent performance record for delivering valuable and essential products to every manufacturing sector in this nation, ranging from electronics and water purification to medical devices and healthcare. This new tool brings to the forefront the overall economic value this industry provides to local economies through their businesses. We hope the broader industry finds usefulness in this data and that the public can see how our sector supports our local communities and businesses.”
