Environmental Justice in the Chemical Distribution Industry

cannabis

ACD places the highest priority on the health, safety, and security of employees, communities, and the environment. This recognition and commitment is demonstrated through ACD Responsible Distribution®, a mandatory third-party verified environmental, health, safety & security program through which members demonstrate their commitment to continuous performance improvement in every phase of chemical storage, handling, transportation, and disposal. ACD supports the meaningful involvement of communities in decisions that impact their environment or health as well as the fair treatment of all people — regardless of race, sex, national origin, or income. No group should be disproportionately impacted by negative environmental consequences because of commercial, environmental, and industrial polices or operations.

Enforcement Action

Environmental justice enforcement actions have begun to increase in frequency and intensity across all levels of government. Protection of vulnerable communities is paramount, but that also includes protecting the local economy and jobs these communities rely on. ACD members put their communities’ and employees’ well-being at the forefront of their priorities, by continuously working to improve safety and reduce incidents through Responsible Distribution.

Chemical distributors provide products that are essential components of safe drinking water, food preservation, and live-saving medicine. If enforcement action is too strong or penalties are too high, it will force out business, resulting in far-reaching consequences. ACD supports balanced policy efforts to maintain critical infrastructure while improving the health and well-being of those disproportionately shouldering environmental burdens.
