This past weekend, President Donald Trump issued three executive orders due to the influx of illicit drugs from Canada, Mexico, and China. Initially to take effect today, February 4, 2025, all articles that are products of the three countries were subject to additional tariffs. President Trump invoked 25% tariffs on goods from Canada and Mexico and an additional 10% tariff on goods from China. A lower 10% duty rate would apply to Canadian energy resources. By the end of the day yesterday, the Mexican and Canadian tariffs had been delayed 30 days due to ongoing discussions between the U.S., Canada and Mexico. The China tariffs remain in effect at this time. With little regulatory guidance being issued by the federal government for compliance, and due to the uncertainty of whether or not these tariffs will still take effect in early March, the Alliance for Chemical Distribution will provide an overview of the three tariffs and what it means to member companies in terms of compliance. Dan Ujczo from Thompson, Hine LLP will be the featured speaker and provide this overview with Q&A afterwards.
